Have you had the updated fuel pump installed in the fuel tank? This was a problem with hard starting on the encore engines. 1998.5 24 valve diesels and up to 2005. The new fuel pump takes the place of the old pump that was mounted to the filter housing.

Yes everyone is correct that the Cummins doesn't have glow plugs. Instead they have a grid heater plate that is in the air intake. So as air is drawn into the engine it is warmed by the grid heater. Your truck should have a preheater symbol on the dash that you need to wait til it goes off before trying to start your truck. And your voltage will jump up and down til the grid heater goes off.

98.5 dodge 2500 diesel.....Hard to start when temp drops..once she start she is fine.
grid heater is fine 12v and hot...can the TPS cause this problem

P0222 Idle Validation Signals Both Low. No clue what that means.

P1693 DTC Detected in Companion JTEC Mod. No clue what that one means either....

Hopefully one of our diesel owners will be along soon.
