So yesterday I pulled the axle out of the 96 parts truck and today I installed it in my truck. Finally able to drive it again. No more broken axle shaft. When I broke the axle shaft I parked the truck in 4x4. After getting the new axle installed I went for a ride and 4x4 indicator light was working when I took off but I switched to 2wd and back to 4x4 and light never came back on. My 4x4 is engaged ( I can see my drivers side wheel spinning) Any suggestions?

Also, the transfer case... In 4x4 there is a clunk noise in the front but only when I accelerate. For example, if I take off slowly and continue to accelerate slowly there is no clunk. Even at highway speeds. However, if I accelerate there is a clunk. The more i accelerate the faster it clunks. In 2wd its fine. Would this be the t-case chain? My front end seems tight. I can feel it under my feet. Checked the driveshaft u joints and cv joint and all seems tight but I'm not sure how they would respond under load. Any suggestions?

I can tell you guys one thing.. No more playing for a while.

Check the u-joints in the front driveshaft. Also make sure all your fasteners are tight.

U joints are tight. I found one problem though that could be related to the sound and 4x4 light. My actuator is cracked and my 4x4 won't disengage now. Could the sound be related to this? Maybe it's engaged improperly? I'll order another tomorrow

Okay so I replaced my actuator and my 4x4 light comes on now and 4x4 engages properly. Everything works greats now EXCEPT for that clunk noise. I've checked u joints and the cv joint by the t-case and its all tight. In 2WD there is no sounds. In 4H or 4L its a nasty clunk/jerk but only when accelerating. The faster i accelerate the faster/louder the clunk is. if I take off really slow up to highway speeds there is nothing. Local people keep telling me my chain is jumping and that its time to pull the t-case out but I'm having a hard time believing so. Yesterday I did find something though.. In 4H if I pull hard and hold the floor shifter there is no noise when accelerating unless I really accelerate. My buddy is convinced my linkage is worn out and its not engaging properly. Can this happen? Any help would be greatly appreciated
