If you are going to dig that deep into it, spend another 70 bucks or so, and replace the timing chain and gears as well. It's only like six more bolts.
Nope. There are two bolts that go up through the pan into the timing cover. Take em out, (along with the other four that are left once the water pump is off) and carefully tilt the timing cover out from the top. It should break loose from the oil pan gasket without tearing it.
When you put things back together, put the timing cover in place, start all the bolts (but, not the ones for the water pump...) SNUG the bolts going into the block, and then torque the pan bolts to spec. Finish installing the rest of the stuff.
A bit of RTV at the bottom there isn't a bad idea though.
Ok dont sound to bad ive never messed with one of these before ive always been a sb chevy guy thanks for all the help can you pull the oil pan with the motor in the truck
Ok so I pulled the ac and altnater and did a pressure test and I think its leaking behind the water pump is there a plate or something back there that can leak it looks like its against the block
