Default transmission issues

Hey guys new to the site hope you can help me out. I just bought a1999 ram 2500 with a5.9 . The transmission slips from 2nd to 3rd at 2000 to 2500 like it won't go into 3rd if I drive it normal. Now if I get on it. It will go threw the gears no problem. I hear a rattle coming from under the truck at around 2500 to3000 rpms. It will go up to2500 in 2nd and act like it's hunting for 3rd gear. Now if I let off it will shift into 3rd gear like it should. Seems to be worse when it's cold out side. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot for the help.if u need more from info me just ask.

How many miles on it?

First thing to try would be changing the fluid/filter, and adjusting the bands.

Start by checking your TV cable adjustment, sounds like you might have some slack in it. Be a good idea to change the fluid and filter also.

Hey guys the truck has 72000 miles on it. I change the fluid the filter governor cylinoid and sensor and adjusted the TV cable and still nothing. When I said hear a rattling noise it almost sounds like an a lifter slapping around the guy at the muffler shop said that it was the Cadillac converter. so I had a friend press on the gas pedal to about 3000 rpms and I didn't hear the the rattle now if the bands were loose would it make that noise? thanks a lot for the help again guys

It's got 72000 miles on it. I changed the filter and fluids. I don't know how to adjust the band's and have been looking into it. To many different ways of doing it on this site. I need more clarity before I do it

I tried that too but it didn't help my problem at all. It would just shift at different rpm's.

Download the 01 service manual from the Service Manual thread in the FAQ section. Procedure for adjusting bands is in there. I think you may also find a slightly different procedure in MonteC's transmission thread. That would work as well.

thanks a lot I'm going to do that now. I've tried a few things and have heard that this is s common problem with these trucks. I'll get back with you if I get a fix on it.
