Default Vacuum to CAD- No 4x4

So I finally have gotten my vacuum down to the cad for 2wd/4wd. But I am still getting binding in 2wd and no engagement of front tires in 4wd.

What should I look for, clean, etc when I start pulling the CAD apart tonight. I'd like to keep it vacuum and off the cable since I went to all the work of getting vacuum lines cut, routed and running through the tcase switch. I'm guessing it has been inop the whole time I've owned the truck and just never noticed until this fall

Thanks for your suggestions

Jake

Hook the vac lines up with the CAD out and verify the shift fork is actually shifting. If so, check that your axles are aligned. If not, check for slop. Could be a worn out bushing in the axle or a bad bearing/bushing on the intermediate axle, or both. See if the collar shifts smoothly to engage the axles by hand.

Had the exact same problem a couple days ago. I had the same binding in 2wd and 4wd wouldn't engage. After dissasembling the vacuum pump from the fork I noticed the rod off the vacuum pump was bent and inturn the fork was bent as well so it didn't sit straight across the collar inside the CAD hence the partial engaugement. Anyways thats what I noticed on mine. Thankfully its fixed we just got dumped with 30cm of snow yesterday.

Were you off roading pretty hard to bend the fork's rod?

Thanks again for the help!

No, my 4wd worked just fine up until the day I replaced my front wheel bearings. After finishing that job I noticed the binding and 4wd not fully functioning. So I'm assuming one of the axles moved while I had the bearings out while replacing them. Still not sure how this happend in the CAD as the axle is supported on both sides.

the inner-end of the outer-axle is supported only by the stupid little nub/bushing where it fits into the hollow end of the inner-axle. so when the outer-axle moves outboard more than 1 inch, it falls out. additionally, if the fork/collar are in the outboard postions (4wd), then the collar can also fall off.

its a stupid design.

do - spray your 4 little cad bolts with pb-blaster to try and prevent them from breaking, and don't overtorque them. all they do is hold on the cover and seal it...

Yes I agree its a stupid design. It was in 4wd as I had to loosen the axle nuts when I did them. I got all my 4 bolts without snapping any but the truck at the junk yard not so lucky but no big deal there.

Moochoff, you getting anywhere?

Hahaha funny you said this about the bolts. Broke 3 of the 4 bolts' heads off with a 1/4" ratchet...

No update for now, is the cover threaded or can I pry it off and hopefully get another shot at getting the bolts out? Probably looks like I'm stuck drilling the left over studs and left handing them out...

Once I get in there, ill have more to share!

Has anybody tried using the MANUAL ENGAGMENT SYSTEM ? I don't use 4 wheel drive often but when I need it I gotta have it working.
