Well I've got the nuts on to the bolts I just can't seem to get anything up there to tighten them down all the way. Would it change anything if I jacked the truck up like give me a better angle to get at the nuts.

No. You should be fine jacking it up. Just keep both sides level, so you aren't introducing a twist to it as well.

I am all for actually having the room to work.
