Default 1998 ram 1500 wiper motor blowing fuses instantly. Need some help please

Hey everyone.

I have a 98 ram 1500 and wipers were working, clearing snow off the windshield, then they just quit. Checked fuse and it was blown. Replaced and it instantly blew. Pulled motor and tried it with no load and runs fine, reattach to linkage and wipers instantly blows again. Linkage all seems fine, no binding.

Anyone ever have this issue? before I buy a new motor. Does it sound like a bad motor? Anyway to bench test?

Thanks,

Geo

i had this same issue with my 99 it most likely the motor is on its way out... i replaced mine with a junkyard find and it has worked fine since then.. if you have the Haynes manual it shows how to test and diagnose the issue... hope this helps

Update. Changed motor and it took care of the problem. Old motor blew fusses under load, but worked fine with out linkage hooked up. Truck has 79k on it. Thought it should of lasted longer. George

The truck is still 15+ years old.... regardless of mileage. Things wear out.

I know it's old, never had to change one before even in older high milage cars. I guess I have been lucky.
