Heater core flush, how should I go about it
I disconnected the hoses, then flushed it out with the garden hose. Then took my air gun and blew some air thru it, and not at 120psi! Just wrapped a rag around the blowgun and slowly applied some air. Then took some CLR and poured that in the heater core and let it soak for 10-15 minutes. Then put an empty gallon milk jug on the inlet side, used the blow gun to flush that out. Repeated with fresh water, then the CLR again. Did that about 4 times. Finally rinsed it out good with the fresh water. Once that was done, poured Anitfreeze down the hoses to "pre fill" the heater core. Buttoned everything back up, topped of the antifreeze. Start it up with the radiator cap off and let it warm up while keeping an eye on the level. Put the cap back on..make sure your overflow bottle is at the full mark. Shut it off and let it cool. You may need to 'burp' it again. Helps to park it with the radiator fill as the highest point.
Pretty much followed the same logic as JTB, except I used 90psi and let it fly, several times. FYI this causes running issues (for a while) cause you soak the **** out of everything.
AND I used Apple Cider instead of CLR.
Last year during December in the single digits with a grill guard I barely got above luke warm... that was with a CLR treatment.
This year (when it starts) I get very warm air when the temps are in the negatives...with the ACV treatment.
