When should 5.9l timing chain be replaced?
Thanks HeyYou.
Looking at the timing sets I have the option to get a set that has adjustable timing (+/- 4). Any real advantage for me if I don't tow much? No real need to increase low end torque, but maybe higher rpm power would be nice if there's no other downside to retarding timing.

For those who wonder about the best way to get that gunk out of an engine...
Three 1,000 mile oil change intervals with 2 quarts 5w30 and 3 quarts sae30 detergent motor oil (normally for small engines) some obvious caveats...if it's cold use the 20 weight, don't even think of running it hard, you don't need to that's not the point, it would do the same job if you idled a few tanks of gas through it. The first oil change it'll be black and nearly soupy, second still black as coal and third it should look like a normal interval oil change...if its still coal black, do another round... the detergent motor oil is the only stuff I know of safe to clean the engine and protect it at the same time. I dont trust any additives or atf/diesel/kerosene mixes. ATF would do the job but it will also leave it's own varnish on metal to metal parts where it overheats (like cylinder walls...)
