have a look at the connector for the headlight switch. They are notorious for getting hot, and melting.

My running light fuse kept blowing in my 2001 Durango when I had a ground in the trailer light wires. Caught up on my exhaust and melted right through the insulator it had on it, plus the wire insulation.

Pull it and have a look. If the connector is all melted, you found at least one problem. If everything looks ok there.... well, need to keep looking.

Ok, that's the way it is supposed to work. (it should 'test' when you first start the truck.... but then, stay off, unless there is a problem.)

Got a trailer harness on that truck? If so, try removing it from the circuit. (should be able to just unplug it.)
