Moving this to the tech section for ya.

Stock backspacing is 4.5 inches. If you want to move them out further, go with less. But, keep in mind, if you reduce backspacing too much (and 2 inches is indeed too much) the tires will start hitting things like the bumper, or back of the fender opening when you turn.

Not to mention, hub assembly lifespan will be shortened considerably.

so to achieve 2in i would have to get a backspacing of 2.5 or am i wrong on that and i was planing on lifting the truck a little but if you think 2in is to much what would be the best way to get that stance without rubbing the only reason i want to do it is cause ive seen a dodge with fender flares on it and the wheels were stock it didnt look right cause the wheels/tire stuck out to the edge of the fender and the fender flare wasnt even over the tire just didnt look right

Stick with the same backspacing as stock, and go with wider wheels. (and wider tires of course.)

I think the stockers are 7.5..... wouldn't hurt to measure them, just to verify that.... (keep in mind, they are measured on the INSIDE, from bead to bead.)

What size tires ya got? What size do you WANT to got?

I pulled this from my notes. There should be pix of all these wheels on my truck in my photo album here on DF.

Wheels I have ran size and backspace/offset.

Stock aluminum wheel specs
Lug Pattern - 5 on 5.5", 1/2" bolt
Rim Size - 16x7.0"
Offset - +13.97mm
Backspace - 5"
Max Tire Size 285/75R16

Stock aluminum wheels and 285/75R16 3” lift this set-up rubbed on the control arms at full lock.

With any of these following wheels offset/backspacing’s the tire and wheels will be outside the fenders. The further out you go with the rim/tire the more stress is put on the unit bearings and ball-joints. The Dana 44 will support a 35” tire but it’s just hard on parts…very hard on parts and tires for that matter. 33 is best really no more.

Eagle Alloy series 185 with this rim I ran a 285/75R16 and a 315/75R16 tire no rubbing, 3” lift and up.

16.0x8.0
Offset -11
BS 4.000

Ion Alloy 171 315/75R16 tire no rubbing.
16x10
Offset -38
BS 4.00

Currant wheel Black Iron Outcast to go along with the Dana 60’s, 315/75R16 tire no rubbing.
16x8.5
Bolt pattern 8x6.5
Offset -6
BS 4.5

Here's an old pic with 3.75" BS on a 8" rim, 12.5" wide tire

I would approximate the rears as ~2" past the fenders and the fronts closer to 3"
