no heat
Hello all. Looking for some opinions. I was driving my truck last week and the heat was working great. Thenall of a sudden it went south, I mean cold. Turned it down to low and it would put out some heat. Wasn't good but just enough to stay comfortable. It was below zero at the time. Well I changed the thermostat today and it started working again. Not like it should but still stays pretty warm. On full blast it doesn't work all that great so I turn it down to the 3rd **** and its good. It never ever really worked on full blast since I have had it anyways. I wonder if I have a air pocket trapped in there somewhere. It was about half gallon low on antifreeze. Like I said I think its doable for now. I'm not freezing while I am driving. Staying pretty comfortable. I don't think its working like it should. Floor board isn't damp and no residue on windsheild and no oil in the antifreeze. Probably could use a good flush and fill to be honest. 1999 dodge ram 1500 4/4 5.9. 170, 000 miles. Any other suggestions would be great. Thank you and thanks for looking at my thread.
Probably a bit of an air pocket in the heater core. They are a pain to get out. Check the thread on the "flush T" in the heater line. That will help.
Also, do you have the little motor on the bottom of the heater box inside the truck for the temp door? if you do, time to drop it, and look at the coupler, see if it is cracked/broken.

I haven't noticed a t flush. I installed one on my car when I flushed it a xouple years ago, but have not installed one on my truck personally. I'll check tomorrow to see if I have the motor that you are talking about. Thanks for the input.
Well I wanted to revisit this. I apologize that is has been over a year but I never really got around to this last year. But I still have no heat when it is tuned on high. Both heater core hoses are hot and is full of antifreeze. I checked the motor on the heater box just pass the tunnel. It is moving but it looks like the actuator and the blend door are moving but then the blend door stops moving and the actuator keeps moving just a little bit longer(at least 2 seconds) So I wonder if it is stripped out or something and not turning all the way as far as it should be to get the max heat. I tried taking the actuator off but can not get that back screw off. Cant get anything back there. Maybe a L screwdriver but cant seem to find one in my tool box. I guess I will have to go buy one this weekend when I get another chance to work on it. Not unless you have another suggestion on getting that stubborn screw out without taking the whole heater box off which unfortunately the dash has to come out all for that little screw. But if the blend door is stripped or something I will have to take it off anyways. Any suggestions or any ideas just let me know thanks. Again I apologize for the year later follow up. It never really got that cold last year, but this year is a different story.
