You *can* just change the r&p, just take a close look at the bearings while you have them in your hand. if they look even remotely questionable. Replace them.

Think I would change the pinion bearings just on general principles though. No matter what they look like.

What size tires do you want to run?

I'm planning to swap my 3.55s for 4.10s too. I just purchased 2 used Dana 60 4.10 ring and pinion sets. Next, I plan to pickup setup kits, which will include bearings, shims and pinion seals. Will also need to pickup a speedo pinion gear, too.

PATC has 'em. Run about 30 bucks a whack. They also have a nice little chart, to tell you which one you need.

adamj99.... What axles are in you truck? If you have half ton axles you have adjustment nuts on the rear so you could get away with not swaping bearings i guess. but why not replace them if your already in there? The front dana 44 requires a carrier swap unless you use a thick cut gear. I guess that is if you have a 4x4. need to put a discription in your signature.

Atomicdog..you have dana 60s so you will need to change your bearings since your shims are under the bearings. Unless you have a bearig puller and want to chance it, but sounds like you have some coming so good deal.

Correct - To do it right for the Dana 60, I need to replace both the carrier bearings and the pinion bearings to get the gears setup correctly, since shims are used behind the bearings.

HeyYou, thanks for the tip on PATC regarding the speedo gear.

You have a Dana 44, get a master install kit with Timken bearings and thick cut gears for the front.
You don't really need the install kit if your bearings are good, but you will need a shim pack to set up the new gears. You doing this yourself?
