Default Transmission problems

My 1994 dodge half ton that has the v10 engine and automatic tranny out of a 1997 3/4 ton is running rough, it cuts out, and seems very doggy in drive it also does not shift into overdrive, but in reverse it will burn the tires off without missing a beat. From what i understand i need to replace a few sensors/solenoids but id like to get some opinions

Here are the 3 codes:
P0743 torque converter curcuit
P0713 trans fluid temp sensor high input
P1763 gov press sensor HI

What do i need to do? Any help would be greatly appreciated

Two of those codes are for the trans pressure sensor. It plays double duty and does the temp sensor thing as well. Think I would consider dropping the pan, and replacing the electronics in there. (governor pressure sensor/solenoid, and O/D, and TCC solenoids.) Sometimes, the wires will rub a bare spot, and things will happen that shouldn't when it grounds out.

If you are feeling experimental, disconnect the 8 pin connector about halfway back on the drivers side of the trans. Go for a test drive. You will have to shift it manually, as there will be zero automatic function. If the truck drives nice, shifts when you tell it to, and doesn't exhibit any strange behavior, the above suggestion should solve your issues.

Of course, given that its a transplant, might just be a wiring issue too. Might wanna check that out first.

First off who did the swap?
The reason i ask is the original tranny would have had mechanical governor and that 97 has electronic that is controlled by the computer.
Was the computer from the 97 swapped into this truck?

I done the swap myself, every wiring harness was swapped along with the computer. I know it wasnt anything that i done because it was doing this in the other pickup. at the time i thought it was just old rotten fuel because it had been setting for about 5 years

Im not finding this 8 pin connector, the wiring runs down the top of the transmission then their are multiple 2 and 3 pin connectors branching off of that. Ill check again when i get off work but any other info about where to find this?

If you download the 2001 service manual from the FAQ's section page 8W-90-17 shows the "transmission solenoid assembly" the 8 pin connector location.

Drivers side of the trans, about half way back. I think there are only three connectors on the whole trans. The one you are looking for is BEFORE you get to the first parting line where the O/D assembly bolts on. So, maybe only a third of the way back. Goes straight down into the trans, on top of the valve body.

Get the 96 manual then.

All the connectors are in the same spot from 94 to 2002. Some connector pinouts changed though.
