Default Need Switched Power Source in Engine Compartment

Any good pointers? Trying to avoid running a wire from the front of the truck into the cab through the dash, etc.

Theres a couple going to the PCM, but, I would be hesitant to tap into those. Coil power is switched, but, goes thru the ASD relay. (engine would have to be running.) Grab the 01 service manual if you don't already have it, and go exploring thru the wiring diagrams.

Check the fuse / relay box by the battery. Sometimes manufacturers will actually leave a few switched and constant terminal that you can tap into for power.

I have not checked mine personally, but in the past I have found some.

I'll see what I can find and I'm hesitant to tap into the PCM also. :-)

I checked there but couldn't find anything that wasn't always hot. Thanks!

Do you have ABS?
I tapped one off there on my 98.
Just probe the back of the connector.

I use the 12v running to the cigarette lighter, it only gets power when the truck is on, at least in my 95 it does.
