Default New Paint Job Questions.

First of all, ff this is the wrong thread, then admin, please move it. Im fairly new to the site so I haven't quite figured everything out.

I have a 1999 dodge ram 1500 Sport. Has the 5.9L and is emerald green metallic or something like that. Its the darker version of the green from those years. Anyways, I have some eastwood epoxy primer and clearcoat (all two part stuff) That I was gonna fix up the bad areas on my truck with. However, Im finding more and more clear coat failure and I think I am going to just do a complete paint job. Ill probably switch over to black and give my self a time frame of a month to do the job. I have all the equipment I need including a compressor (80 or 120 gallon, I dnt remember), guns, sanders, body filler, welder, etc.

Problem I have is that Ive heard black is a hard color to paint because it shows EVERYTHING. I figure on taking the truck completely apart and leaving only the cab since its too much of a pain to take off. Ill disassemble doors and have those seperate as well. Ill probably pull out any window stripping and tape the windows to prevent overspray. As far as a booth to paint in, I can make a temporary booth out of drop cloth or tarp in the shop.

Questions:
How much of primer, paint, and clear coat am I going to need for a complete job. (Not the inside of bed, thatll be lined with Herculiner or something similar)

How long will that actual painting take? I plan on using a 2 stage paint, not single.

When removing rust, do I need to completely cut it out if its very bad and sand it off if its just on the surface and be done with it? Of course its gonna take epoxy primer and body filler to smooth everything out after welding sheet metal, but what about the inside where I cant paint to prevent rusting?

As far as the actual color of paint, I know light colors are better, but is black going to be possible for me? I bed line the from the bottom of my truck up to the first body line anyways, so I figured that could be my practice area. I got way to many gravel roads and mud to try to keep paint on the bottom side. Most of the paint was chipped off before I lined it because of rocks.

When I go to spray, is there a certain time or weather condition I should spray in? Ill be in a uncontrolled enviroment, so if there is a certain humidity I should watch for or temperature, then Ill adjust accordingly by spraying in the morning, evening, etc. I know I can thin stuff down if its to cold so I may wait until after the hottest of the summer is over. Where I live gets up to 105 degrees on average sometimes, but humidity is usually extremely high.

Keep in mind this is my first actual paint job. I plan on using some of the paint I was going to touch up with as practice. Its acrylic anyways and all my other stuff is urethane. I know this is a long post, but I got a while. All help is appreciated. I probably left out some information so just ask if your confused and Ill try to help. Thanks!

Black does tend to show every little ripple in the body work. Question becomes, can you live with that? Or, do you want to spend the time to get everything "perfect"?

There was another thread about painting techniques here not so very long ago. There was some REALLY good info in there. Might try and dig that one up. (don't recall the title though, sorry.)

Welcome to DF!

That is legit...lol. Might as well be a picture book, but I can just go step by step. Thanks, that helps a lot.
