I droped the pan on my tranny and pulled the valvebody yesterday. How many quarts of atf +4 should it take to refill? I know the fsm calls for 2 qts after a filter change but it took me 5 before I had a reading on the stick but after 6 I have fluid all the way up above the z bend in the stick...I hope it is just residual fluid in the tube.

I also need a new tv cable as mine is frayed. On the up side the truck seems to be driving and shifting good.

 

4 is usual, 5 has been seen, even 6, if it stays open for a while. You ARE checking the fluid in neutral, with the engine running, right?

 

It took mine almost 7 quarts after pulling the valve body. Check valve had been deleted which probably made a difference as well.

 

Yes, running in neutral. I also have an aux cooler and the check valve has been deleted. I'll drive it for a few minutes and then recheck. I just wish it was warmer...I live in the south for a reason. Thanks for the quick replies.
