Default 5.9 block

I have gotten my hands on a 95 ram 5.9 block and heads, would it be a problem to put in 97 ram 5.2 part for part? (other then flywheel) I know there is not much horsepower difference but the 5.2 has a knock and the used 5.9 has low miles and its cost me next to nothing

May need to change torque converter as well. I think there are balance weights on the 5.9 fellers. Aside from that, it will bolt right in, and hook right up.

It has a different program to run the 5.2 or the 5.9. But it seems like the o2 sensors would tell the PCM that its running rich or lean and compensate for it. Of course your o2 sensors and cat have to be in good working order.

If this is wrong someone please correct me.

Correct.

Programming for 5.2 running a 5.9 *might* run a bit lean in open loop. (but, they tended to run them rich in any event.... so, probably just a wash) Once in closed loop, O2 sensor will take care of it. if you get excessive spark knock, back off the go-pedal.

Neither my sons 5.2 97ram or my 5.9 95ram have o2sensors or cad conv for that matter they are straight piped and eventually I will bypass the o2 altogether. I've gotten pretty much all of the stuff out of the way I will either pull it out tonight or in the morning, it's a tad cold. And all my injuries from when I got smashed by the drunk driver tend to get mad at me when Im working outside all day (: be nice to have the 20 year old body again or the 20 year old son to help!!!!

You actually WANT that front O2 on the truck, and working correctly. It has a major role to play in fuel economy, and engine efficiency in general.

So I can still do the bypass on the front and it will think it's working right? Saving his gas mileage?

You can bypass the front O2, but it wont think it is working right.
As one example; when you accelerate (open the throttle) it richens the mixture and monitors the front O2 to see if it has achieved the desired richness... with the O2 bypassed, it will not see the increase in richness, and therefore continue to dump in even more gas in an attempt to get the desired O2 reading, but it never will, and your MPG go out the window.

Working front O2... bypass rear O2 (if needed).
