I have a 99 ram 5.9l 4x4 that has not been starting out in first when I take off. I've looked on here and most people say to change the two solenoid in the pan so I did that. It's been a few days and it's still starting out in 2nd and feels sluggish and the check eng light is on with the code saying it's the press sensor but I just replaced that. Any ideas? Thanks

 

Are you getting P1762 or P1763? Another possibility is shorted wires on downstream 02 sensor. They are on the same circuit as pressure solenoid. Worth a look.

 

Sorry for the late response. Thanks for getting back to me. How do I check if it's the o2? I have replaced everything else and am desperate to figure it out thanks

 

Just an update. I broke the tv cable adjusting it so I put in a new one. I think I adjusted it right and it now seems to start out in first for now. But now it does not shift out of 2nd when going down the road. Any suggestions?

Which parts did you replace? There is a pressure sensor, and the pressure solenoid, right on the bottom of the valve body, and then there are two solenoids, on the back side, that are a little more fun to get to.

 

I did the two in the pan and the check eng light is still on but I think it's the same code as before I havnt been able to get it to a place to check but it was saying it was the gov but I changed that

 

Then you may have a wiring, or PCM issue.

 

A member on here had p1763 and p1762, which are tranny codes, and found downstream 02 wires melted together. But not shifting out of 1st, would doublecheck that tv cable adjustment, and the lever on the transmission is returning to idle position. I pulled that clip out one time and got the cable way off and it wouldn't go out of 1st until I got it back to where it was. Just another dumb thing.

 

Oh ok thanks. Il have to check that out. Ya I can't seem to get that stupid cable just right. The way they say it is suposed to go it what I set it at but it doesn't seem right. I think it shifts to third but only if I let off the gas. The second i touch it it goes back to second. Thanks for the suggestions guys. Il keep looking into it and keep this updated

 

will it start in 1st gear if you manually put it in 1st???ive had a very simular issue as well,and it turned out to be a stuck check ball lodged in the seperater plate in the valve body,how many miles do you have on this transmission??
