Radiator/Water Fluid Pour Out Area Help
Here I am again but this is serious! My 96 Ram 1/2T, 2wd, 5.2/318 motor with 124,711 actual miles
Tranny is bad, only has reverse. Its been sitting for about 4 months til I recently moved it the front of garage to tune up the motor...
I have a water/fluid pour out issue when I put water/fluid in the radiator. And I mean from dead cold no power...
Po, my father in law changed the water pump and whole radiator cooling system in August last year 2013. Then blew the tranny in October.. Then gave it to me in December
--I NEED ALL HELP AND IDEAS OF WHAT THIS CAN BE TO SEE IF I CAN FIX IT BEFORE TRANNY WORK--
Back of motor on driver side right above starter and wire section. It looks like a ?freeze plug? since its like round and shiny metal different from motor and look like has a tab and some rust.

Yep, freeze plug. It may indeed have simply rusted out. They are pretty easy to change. Gotta drop the starter for that one though. (disconnect battery first....) Just drive a screwdriver thru the old one, pry it out, clean out the hole, put a bit of RTV around the perimeter of the new one, and use a fair sized socket to drive it in. Then just put things back together, and refill the cooling system.
Ok cool deal Thanks... Im guessing This one from my local A.Z? There is a cheaper one thats like a rubber puck with bolt and nut through...?

The site gets stupid with the link, shows the correct plug briefly, then wants to know what yer drivin', and gives a whole list of freeze plugs. If it is 1 5/8ths, that is the correct size.
Ok for my truck {96 ram 1500 5.2 L gas} its telling me 1 1/4ths and its a brass shallow type, Dorman Brand #565-024. I called my store and they say/claim its a universal part but thats what comes up for what I need...?
--The rubber expand plug/puckis actually a camshaft plug and its is 1 7/8ths minimum and expand to 2"
Grrrr Simple part but complicated finding. I hate math and measure!!

The freeze plugs used in the engine block of the 5.2/5.9 gas motors are 1-5/8". The freeze plugs in the back and front of the cylinder heads are 1-1/4". I prefer deep cup plugs for both, as they tend to stay in place better. If you plan to keep the truck for a while, go with brass instead of steel. Definitely, leave the rubber plugs in the store! To me, they are only good in an emergency..

Um anyways, um thanks for the help. My truck build book is filling up. Turn out imma need to order my plug online. All any local have "in stock" in steel and ohh 2-3 weeks order. And the kits are universal, as of not all I will use. Sooo imma just order all I need online, therefor imma get all I need. Til then I'll finish rubberizing my cab.... Thanks
