Default 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 5.9 360 4x4

So here's my problem. Or potential problem. Today I was cruising down the road and was in a 60mph zone when I came up behind someone doing 50mph so I proceded to pass em and when I floored it (pedal all the way down) it shifted out of over drive fine then boom! Stuck at 4000rpm and barley increased speed. Anyone else experience this? Btw as far as I can tell it's shifting normal. 4x4 works perfect too.

No after wards it went back to normal. It only happens when floored all the way. Is that normal?

Pretty much. The pressure sensors in the trans aren't the best. At large throttle openings, they get 'saturated', and basically lie to the PCM. So, no shifting for you.
