97 ram 5.2 lifter tick
hello everybody
i have a dodge ram 1500 ext cab 4x4, it has a lifter/rocker arm peck at hi rpms on the pass side ov the motor.
the truck runs fine and has plenty of power for a 318 with 187k miles on the clock.
i just got this truck, it has a complete tune up plugs , wires , cap and button
and a fresh oil and filter. it only ticks when warm and at higher rpms like when its about to shift. it doesnt do it at idle. should i be worried? it hasnt changed any in the 1k miles i have put on it.
was thinking a bad lifter or a bent push rod, hoping its not a cam.
any words of wisdome? i only paid 2100 for the truck so to me its worth fixing even if it needed a new cam and lifter set
thanks don

i checked for oil in the throttle plate as i was told that it would be present if i had the dreded plenum leak and found nothing out of the ord
it is loudest when you for instance kick in the passing gear/ bring the rpms up to around 2500 or so.
tomarrow im going to warm it up then shut it off and remove the fan belt for a few seconds to make sure its not a tentioner or waterpump or something of that nature

Need to crack open the throttle plates and look at the bottom of the intake. Oil likes to pool toward the back, which is difficult to see with the throttle body in place. (unless, like my truck, you have an oil swimming pool on the bottom of the intake....)
Pull the valve cover, check for any loose parts. Be sure to roll the engine over a couple times, so you can check each cylinder when both valves are closed.

Some people have noticed lifter tick with certain oils I believe...
What kind of oil are you usin'?
