Default Fifth Gear Nightmare

Well, I got everything ready to change over on the nv4500 except one thing. I can't take the mainshaft out cause the fifth gear is not budging. I already took the nut off using a railroad spike (that's a new one huh?) (btw, It already has an upgraded nut, Merc225). I have used a prybar and my rail-road spike to pry and tap in every direction and angle but it wont even move on the splines. NO budging whatsoever. Any one got any bright ideas?

Apparently, the gear is pressed onto the shaft, and there is some special tool involved in removing it....... They show a nice picture of it on page 21-65 of the 96 service manual. (Which you probably don't have.... as yours is a 98, and the 01 manual will be closer to what you have. Should have the same illustration in that one... might be a different page though.

I probably am just gonna send it to the local trans shop and let them do it. I didn't realize how many special tools were needed for this dang trans. At least I wont have to worry about it if someone else does it.
