Default HID Lights

I know this has probably been gone over a hundred times (Ive looked at various forums) but I am always confused as to what is going on. It seems like most get a pair of headlights off ebay and fit a HID to them. I got a 1999 dodge ram 1500 sport. Its got the sport headlights (Obviously), but they are getting microcracks and you can't polish those out. Besides that, they just suck and can't keep them from yellowing in less than a couple weeks. I figure with my B-Day coming up, a good set of HIDs would be nice. I need to find a housing housing that is already compatible with HID though because Id like to do it right. Don't wanna spend a whole lot. Probably put a cap of 200, maybe 250 on the housing. I like the shiny black ones! Besides that, Ill probably switch my taillights to black LEDs or something like that so I should probably get something that'll be close to matching. To make it simple, I am basically asking who has a HID housing for our 2nd gen rams? I can redo wiring if need be, but I can't make a housing lol. Thanks.

Check out these guys.

You can use the non-sport headlights, but, you will have to do some creative re-wiring if you have the dual bulb headlights. (which I think the 99 is......)

HeyYou has it correct. Just get the whole pieces....otherwise the wiring is a PITA.

I found a source. What about these? http://www.protuninglab.com/94-01-do...eadlights.html They look pretty wicked and they are HID. However, seems to me that I am just ignorant and they are the same thing as most others. They come with a "Sport" option though as well as power output, etc. Im really diggin this one as of now.

BTW: The site says it will not fit a 99-01 sport model because of the two bulb system. I, for one, do not worry about it too much if the headlight will fit the body and I can just do the "creative wiring" HeyYou was talking about. If anything, I can rewire the system to an certain extent. I am assuming its dual headlight because one is dim, one bright. Thus eliminating the need for a dimmer switch that is found on many older vehicles? I don't actually know, just a a theory of mine.

The one you like has an option for 'sport model', which I am going to guess, means it has the correct wiring adapters to make it work on the dual bulb system.

You do indeed have a dimmer switch. Same place as the non-sports. The turn signal stalk.

Oh, ok cool. I hope your right because itd be nice to not have to mess with figuring out HOW to do the wiring. I suppose they just say it wont fit the 99-01 sports because of the wiring, but there are the other years as well so i don't know. I should call and see.

Yeah, calling and having a chat with them sure wouldn't hurt.

Keep in mind, these things almost universally come wired "wrong" from the factory, they have the high, and low beam wires mixed up.

Okay, thanks. You've been a huge help. Most people Ive talked to HATE HIDs because they are stupid bright If they stopped driving cars and used HIDs themselves, they would understand. Unfortunately for cars, they are looking basically directly at HIDs. At the same time, newer vehicles are coming out with them anyways so I am just advancing myself to newer technology in a older vehicle.

I ordered from the same place. Nice quality headlights but DO NOT get the pre installed HID kits in them. They are crap and stock bulbs are brighter. Plus the wiring harness is not "plug and play." You have to do a lot of splicing. You're also lucky if they pick up their phone, lol. They respond to your email sometimes though.

Just my 0.02. I wanna get new HID kits for them. One of the little sets of 3 bulbs are starting to go too.

Im not worried about the wiring harness...but I am worried about blowing money on crap HIDs. How do I not get them? Just get the ones that don't say HID Xenon + Dodge ram angel halo, etc.?
