So far as I know, the 97 was the only year that used the plastic fuel rail...... (without a pressure test port too.....)

That mrinjector thing looks cool. I have a spare set out in the garage. I think I'll send them in to get cleaned

96 here and it has the metal fuel rail. Op you might want to pick up a few extra clips that hold the injector into the fuel rail Mopar part number is 5303 0638.

Thanks for your generous offer. I'll have to look at our proposed route and see where you're at. Where are you in Canada?

We were out in Alaska and Canada two years ago with my Jeep and trailer. We'll be retracing part of our trip, but also checking out new places. And hoping the roads through Canada don't get washed out again like they did last year on us. Here's a write-up from our last trip:

My '98 has steel fuel rails.

I would look at replacing the cross-over tube while you've got the rails out... it is plastic, and they do get brittle... don't run the risk of having it crack from the flexing it will get, and then spray your engine bay with gas as you drive down the road.

Ok; so after work today I tackled the job of replacing my fuel injectors. I started around 1630, and by 1830 I was done doing a test-fire (no leaks!) and putting my tools away. All-in-all it was pretty straight forward with no issues, and I was taking my time doing it. Thanks to those who posted on this thread for making this easier for me.

I think the hardest part was getting the injectors out of the engine after everything was disconnected. I was afraid I might break something if I pried too hard. I sprayed them down with WD40 and went and cleaned the throttle body while they soaked in a bit. But with a little bit of prying the rails with injectors attached on each side of the engine popped out and I could bring it to my workbench to change them out individually. Fortunately they went back into the intake manifold easier then they came out. I'm in no rush to do this job again - maybe after another 200,000 miles.

After dinner I took it for a test drive. I really could tell a difference. Not that it was so bad before (if someone new were to have taken it for a spin they would not have thought anything was amiss), but I knew; it seemed to run smoother and accelerate just a little bit better after the swap. I just figured after 200,000 miles it was due a set of cleaned and rebuilt injectors, and I think I was right. I'm glad I replaced them. Now I need to see if I get any increase in MPG.

Edit: Turned 200,000 miles this evening (the next day after installing rebuilt injectors). Woo Hoo!

In case anyone is interested, I got my rebuild injectors from this place:

http://precisionautoinjectors.com/co...fuel-injectors

I didn't want to post it up until I actually got them installed and tested them out. So far so good! I can tell a difference in how it runs and drives. The price includes a $35 core charge. I've got them packaged up and ready to mail back. So this project will end up costing about $100 after the core charge refund (I don't charge myself labor) for eight cleaned/rebuilt fuel injectors for my 96 5.2 Dodge Magnum engine.

Wonder if the labor charges would be tax deductible......

Drive 'em for a while, and then let us know as well please.
