Please help my truck won't start!
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 V-10 that has always ran good. I was driving it all over today and it ran good as always....until....I stopped at the gas station to fill some heating oil containers and when I went to restart the truck it ran for a second and quickly stalled. I thought maybe I just prematurely released the ignition, so I didn't think much of it and tried again....again it ran for a second and stalled. It did this over and over again, so I had it towed home, by time I got it home it wouldn't even run for a second it just cranked, which could be attributed to a wore down battery. Nevertheless, I got it home and have been thinking its likely a fuel issue and have done some research showing the only fuel filter is above the fuel tank....is this correct?? Is it likely a clogged fuel filter could be the culprit? When I turn the key I can here the fuel pump, so I presume this is still working properly.
Any suggestions would be great!!

I would get a fuel pressure gauge and check the pressure before assuming the fuel pump is good. I can't say for sure what the pressure is supposed to be, but it should be in one of the FSMs in the FAQ section. I would go download the 01 manual as it has quite a bit of info and troubleshooting tips.
Maybe one of the v10 guys will stop by with a quicker solution..

If it's a crank no-start, you're losing fuel, spark or compression (very unlikely). Find out which and we could help you further. But first off, if you have a weak battery, get it tested and replace if necessary. Still no start? Pull a spark plug (connect it back to its wire), and hold it to the engine block (dont hold it with your bare hand for obvious reasons). Crank the truck over..There should be a nice blue spark. Next would be to check fuel pressure..I would assume it should be ~50psi.

Yesterday, I actually got one more start out of the truck and it ran fine until I shut it down then it wouldn't start again. I checked for any sign of pressure from the schrader valve on the fuel rail with absolutely none to speak of, so I checked the relays by switching them and all seemed fine. So today I bought the fuel pump and since It was actually pretty warm here in Fairbanks, Alaska I went to work...outside....seeing as my shop is in the middle of construction and that is at a stop because I can't haul lumber without my truck running. Anyway, I saw a video on You Tube where the guy unbolted the front 4 bolts from his bed and jacked up the front of his bed to access the pump. I did this technique with a floor jack and some 2x6's and it worked pretty well, just had to block the bed up very well before getting under it. I got the pump in and the truck runs again!!
The only thing I found odd was the new pump didn't come with a fuel line snap connection. I had to work the part off of the old pump. You would figure for 250.00 they would supply that 5 cent piece. Either way its finished. Thanks for all of the suggestions!
