Default Please help think i have found my issue but need help on how to resolve

Ok you guys have been AWSOME on the help so far. now for the issues

i have stated before my truck is a 1996 dodge ram 5.2L 318 v8
my issues are like this truck runs AWSOME when cold once it heats up i lose all power starts popping from intake and idles/runs VERY rough.

I talked to my uncle today ASE mech 30+ years but sadly lives 12 hours from me so not really able to help. he told me to hook up a fuel pressure tester to it.

which i did truck fired right up( been sitting for 2 days) ran great i left the tester hooked to the schrader valve and left the yard truck held fast betwwen 45-50 lbs rolling or idleing now once my issues as listed about started the pressure dropped to around 13 lbs and truck ran like crap so i limped it home.. Why is my truck losing fuel pressure like this once it heats up.. Please help thank you in advance.

Sounds like your fuel pump is going bad and needs replacement. Do you know if it has ever been replaced before? If not, replacing the fuel pump should cure the issue. It's located in the fuel tank.

+1 on fuel pump. Had a 94, when the pump went you could let it cool off, then drive 1/2 a mile, then sit and let it cool off, then maybe 1/4 mile. Takes along time to get anywhere like that!

yea you need to check in to a new fuel pump module, basically its the pump and fuel pressure regulater all in one unit, unfortunatly you gotta drop the tank to put it in,some people actually unbolt the bed from the truck and tilt it up to gain access to the top of the tank..

Your fuel sending unit is likely going bad if the gauge is not reading properly. It is in the fuel tank, right with the pump. Sounds like dropping the fuel tank is in your future to fix your issues. The fuel pump in my '96 Ram was replaced by the prior owner of my truck.

Look at it this way - if the pump is original, you have more than gotten your money's worth out of it (17 years)..

Like others have said, don`t use an airtex fuel pump. There a low quality fuel pump, others here that have used them have had them go bad a few months after replacing there fuel pump with an airtex.
