I'm not saying it's a bad system, it just looked like a quick solution to the problem of the engine being too large for the bay, it's probably also why there's no comfortable sheeting arrangement for taller guys, with the seat back your always stretching for the shifter. I know there is a bit involved for converting to manual but it seemed too much effort and money for something that really had no excuse to fail as often as it did

Default Thank you

Thank you all for your help with this, I have replaced the power steering pump and resealed the vacuum pump, changed the fluid. Now I have a whine in the steering, is this caused by air in the lines and if so will it work out? If this is not it what should I look for.

Probably air.

Jack up the front of the truck. Get both wheels off the ground.

Check fluid level, make sure it is good.

Start engine, crank wheels lock to lock a couple times. Shut off engine.

Check fluid. If it is foamy, there is still air in there. Wait for about half an hour, and do the whole thing again. Keep doing that until fluid level stays good, and isn't foamy any more. Whine should stop.

Edit: May need to step you your brake as well.
