If the coil driver was fried, would it spark at all? My guess would be no.

I had to call a shop. I hate to do it, being as I know my truck better than anyone. All my tools are packed up, I have no garage to work on it, its dumping rain and snow, and I'm in a motel parking lot in Butte, Montana, where I don't know a single soul.
If the coil driver was fried it could spark intermittently, enough to keep it running.

Too bad you're up in Montana. I hate the feeling of having someone else work on a vehicle, especially a customized one.

I also wonder that. Would it fire at all though, if the coil was junk?

Maybe.

Electrical parts can have some truly strange failure modes....

Buddy had around the same problem with his 318. It would stay running just kept dying. It'd stay running if you kept on the gas but.
I told him to turn the key all the way on(dash lights up) then all the way back off. And do that 3 times. And on the 4turn start it and it stayed running. Don't know if it's work but

Hey guys, Scooter texted me and said he's back on the road again.

It turned out, AutoZone, gave him a flasher relay instead of a ASD relay for his ASD. Hence the pulsing haha. Swapped it and he's back on the road again.

Hopefully, the OP returns with an explanation of what corrective action was taken.
