I was driving my truck and it seemed to loose power as though it ran out of gas. it backfired through the exhaust and then just quit. I have replaced the crank shaft sensor, the cam sensor, rotar button, plug wires, and the coil, but i have not removed the distributor so its not out of time. I put new plugs in it, the old ones were fouled. Now it will crank and crank but it seems not to be firing. it has a quarter of a tank of gas as it sits now. help!

Thanks guys, but thats the problem. I have checked the spark which is fine and I know there is fuel pressure because the plugs are soaked. thats why i'm at such a loss. i was thinking it was an auto shut off problem but i have a book for the truck and there doesn't seem to be one...

There's a good stupid redneck (stupid being the key word) way of checking spark the at the plugs, pull a plug, leave it connected to the wire, hold a screwdriver to the tip, have someone try and start the truck, and touch the metal part of the screwdriver....
If it hurts chances are you're getting spark![Big Grin](https://dodgeforum.com/forum/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Of course I don't recommend you do it that way....

Stomp the gas pedal to the floor, and hold it there, crank the eninge. See if it will fire up.
Check the two-wire coolant temp sensor. It's over by the thermostat housing, on the intake. Screws into the coolant passage there. Make sure it is plugged in good.
Sounds like it is flooding out..... if it starts with the pedal on the floor, but, still runs like doo doo, I would look REAL hard at that temp sensor.

Also, if it starts with the gas pedal pressed, there's a chance it could be the idle air control (IAC) valve. But, usually if it's the IAC, it would probably start but immediately quit.
Also, you probably already checked this, but make sure your air filter is clean and that your throttle cable is still connected to the throttle lever on the throttle body. Edit: that last one's probably dumb since the IAC would probably still allow it to start and idle.
