Default Not Reading ODB2 Codes

I've got a 96 1500 Ram with the 5.9L. Have an ODBII scanner that works (just tried it on the other car in driveway), but it won't read on the Dodge. Everything that I've found says that it should work on 96 and older models, but to no avail. What am I missing here?

Thanks,

Thanks. It started running real rough last night and I was hoping to identify something I can repair this weekend before taking it to my local garage on Monday. Replaced the crank position sensor in November after it started acting very similar. We'll see. It's only 206K miles young.

96 is kind of a strange year.... not really OBDI, but, not really OBDII either.... I have never had a problem with the parts store scanners reading mine though......

Scanner only uses two wires to communicate, Pin 6, and pin 7. These wires come directly from the PCM, Connector 137, pin 29 and 27, respectively. Should also be battery power at pin 16 on the diag connector. (I think... diagram is kinda strange.)

Connector 137 is the grey one at the PCM. Wires you are interested in are Pink with Dark Blue trace, other wire is Dark Green. Make sure you have continuity from the PCM, to the data connector.
