Default Clutch Kit

It's time for the rust bucket to get a new Manual clutch. Being not to well versed in things pertaining to the removal of the transfer case and transmission, I'm opting to let someone who knows what they are doing, perform the labor. I get to provide the parts. Never mind that fact that I'm lacking in the tools department.

Currently looking at the Sachs or Valeo kits. Thoughts or suggestions?

I've been running a Bahnhoff Stage 1 racing clutch kit, and loving it. It's only like $10 more than stock, and holds a lot more power, so on a stock truck it'll last longer. Below is the clutch I got. Some people complain that it is a grabby clutch, I never had that problem, just break it in properly.

Valeo is the usual OEM replacement.

What do you mean by 'grabby'?

Thanks for the link!

Hay's, Centerforce, Zoom are all much better quality over stock replacement clutches. I have lot's of experience with the first two brands I listed.

Make sure you get the flywheel surfaced (if you don't you are pissing your money down the drain), get a new pilot bearing, get a new throwout bearing.

Grabby means the clutch has a tendency to "grab" when you are engaging it, so it's a little rougher start.

I'm using a Valeos in mine, holds ~500ft/lbs just fine. When I rebuilt the motor I checked the clutch disk and it only wore down a combined .015" (.0075" per side) in 61k miles compared to the new disk (only replaced because it was convenient).

I'm not convinced these low level "performance" clutches are anything special over the OEM stuff.

Got the new clutch put in and the truck back today...about shoved my foot through the floor boards, seeing as the resistance is almost nothing compared to the previous clutch. No longer feels like it wants to grind going into gear. woo hoo.

To bad I now have to shampoo my seat so I can wear anything other than black...dude didn't cover anything before sliding in and out with oily grime covering his pants and shirt. I'm hopeful the quality of work is better than the quality of care.

No. Thought I'd save a few $$. 😢. Guess I'll need to check torque on everything I can get my hands on.
