Erm, the 01 trans is an RE, the 94 trans is an RH. I am surprised that anything worked at all. There is no way to adapt the newer trans to work in the older truck, without replacing ALL the electrical in the older truck. You need a trans from a 94-95.

Assuming, of course, you are talking automatics?

along with that, also guessing its a 2wd? the 94 has a speed sensor in the trans, the 01 does not have a speed sensor in the trans, the 01 uses a speed sensor in the rear axle

What do you have hooked to the 8 pin connector on the 01 tranny?

The 94 has a hydraulic controlled governor.
The 01 is electronic controlled thru the the 8 pin connector.
Sounds like he has no governor working.

You can't run switches for the trans. The governor solenoid is a 'variable force' solenoid, regulated by the PCM on newer trucks. A switch just isn't going to cut it. You need a 46RH trans, otherwise, two gears is all you are going to get. No speedo, no cruise, and a selection of other problems.
