Default Re-gear question

So I'm currently on 33s coupled with stock gearing and it is terrible. I want to regear my axles this year but I'm not sure how low to go. The 33s have 6,000 miles on them and when I replace them I'm getting 35s, maybe ~36s. So, my question is, would 4.88s be alright on 33s until I replace them? Would that just be overkill? Any harm to be done? Thanks for your input!

4.88s and 33's would absolutely suck on the free way. Pushin' 3 grand at 75 MPH. Better own stock in an oil company.

Haha yeah, I figured as much. I'll probably end up going 4.56. Do you know if 4.56 is similar to stock tire size and gear setup as far as power? Or does it feel more torquey than stock?

4.56 coupled with 35 inch tires would have RPM's right around stock values for any given speed. (and that's what we generally recommend for 35's.) For 33's, you would run a bit higher RPM on the freeway, but, you will LIKE it around town.

And I suppose 4.88s and 35s would be similar to 4.56s and 33s?

I'm running 33's (285/75/16) and plan on going to 4.10s front and rear. I think its a great compromise for around town, highway and towing, not to mention gas mileage..

I have 3.55s now and the truck is pretty sluggish from a dead stop.

Mine's fine from a dead stop, really. Just an absolute dog on the highway..

So I searched around and found the ratio for 4th gear in our transmissions, which happens to be .69. Then I went to this (http://www.crawlpedia.com/calculators.htm) site and used their RPM calculator and found that with 4.88s and 35s at 70 MPH the engine speed is ~2263, which seems good to me. Not too high, and plenty of power right in there.

My question is, is this a reliable calculator to go by? Can I trust that it'll be somewhat close to that? Or is that somehow off or did I calculate something wrong.
