Healthy electrical on these trucks is very important.
Need to find out why battery not charging.
Next time its running use an DMM to see what voltage is at battery while running.

The electrical system is a critical part of the truck running smoothly, with that said I would have the alternator tested or replaced when you get a new battery because I have seen alternators go bad in other cars and trucks and the idiot or check engine light never came on. So if you really think about it everything (coil, computer, fuel pump, etc)is depending on enough electrical power to work properly.
