1995 Dodge Ram 1500 46RH Transmission Help!
Hi guys I have a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500 with a 46RH transmission in it. About a week ago the truck started having transmission problems out of nowhere. You can hardly feel it go in to first gear now. Also it doesn't shift right from 3rd to 4th gear. I would have to let off the gas a little for it to go into gear. After it gets to 4th gear it rides normal. It also makes like a grinding noise now when I put it in drive. Anyone know what the problem may be. Do I need to get it rebuilt? Like I said this just came out of nowhere one night. There were no previous problems with the transmission leading up to this. Thanks for the help!

First thing to do is check the trans fluid level/condition. Keep in mind, you MUST check fluid level in Neutral. Checking in park will give you an artificially high reading.
If fluid level is good, time to drop the pan, and see what you find. If there isn't anything truly ugly in there, change fluid, filter, and adjust the bands. See if that makes any difference. If not, then yep, time for a rebuild.

Ok I figured out how to do the band adjustment. I have the pan off of the transmission, but I can't find a socket to fit the adjustment screw. What type of fitting fits the adjustment screw on the 46RH transmission?
I can't remember, any way you can snap a picture for us. That would probably jog my memory. For some reason I want to say it is Torx.
As a side note I have a rebuild kit for the 46rh I don't need anymore and could give you a good deal on. I may have the whole transmission I'll be pulling out of my 95 available soon too.

The front band takes a 5/16ths 8 point socket, can't recall what the other one takes, but it's a standard hex head, not some oddball thing.
Thanks for the help guys. It worked and the truck runs better than it did before. All I did was the filter, the fluid, and adjust the rear band. So I really don't know what the problem was, but it's fixed now. Thanks for the help.
