Double Roller timing chain. clearance issue?
I have a 98 1500 with the 5.2
I read on on some other forum that you have to grind to timing cover to make room for the double roller from comp cams i am going to be getting. Is this true?
Also will the double roller chain work with the chain tensioner on the 98 models?
OR should I stick with a stock oem single chain?

OEM chains suck. Throw it in the trash and forget it. Its actually not even single link. Well not metal at least. Its a morse style. Wears out at like 60k miles
Idk whoever told you to grind of the timing cover but they are misinformed.
i dont see why the tensioner wouldnt work. I dont have one personally though.

I have installed both the double roller timing gears/chain and the MOPAR Performance tensioner (P5007709) under the stock 5.9 Magnum timing cover with no issue whatsoever. The two make for rock solid valve timing for a long time and is a great mod.
Does your '98 model actually have a timing chain tensioner installed?

Alright then. I'm gonna order the comp cam double roller for it, and some other gaskets. Timing chain cover is leaking so thought I miswell change the chain and gears. Autozone has a $25 gift card with $100 or more purchase that ends at midnight today.
After all, its been 175k miles on the stock chain. Bought it off a family member and they say it hasn't been done.
I asked about the tensioner since the used replacement motor I put in my truck was a '98 model 5.9 and it didn't have a tensioner installed. When I did my timing chain job, I added a new tensioner.

i think what the other threads were possibly talking about is the 3 bolt cam retainer plate..,Bolt the top gear on (without the chain) 1st,then make sure you can still rotate the cam with the gear installed,if it seams a little tight,you may need to fuzz a little off the front of that plate due to the timing gear rubbing against it to much..
I've got the Cloyes DRTS on my 98... no fitment/clearance issues.
Also no tensioner... I thought the tensioner was from the LA, and the Magnum didn't have them... it can be fitted, but isn't necessary for everyday use.
