It's a problem no matter how you look at it. As complicated as your problem has become, I would repair it and give her a test drive... With any luck, you found it

You found the culprit of the changing lane clunk of doom! It some instances its like death wobble BC the wear is enough on that ball joint to shift the entire axle 1-2" instantly. This is the classic wearing out is all. No lift in the near future then yes the Moog is just fine. I think its less than $200 even. Maybe even consider cheaper from local yard to get by.

As for pinion angle from other thread I swear you didn't type trans before lol. It would be checking angle on tcase tail shaft. Magnet won't work but use flattest surface. I think I put bottom of tail shaft BC of clearances.

Also make sure you're parked level to remove that effect on level.

Yes i didnt type trans. I typed something else haha silly "smart"phone.

I priced the moog during my axle swap and it was a cool 100 bucks at oreillys. me thinks the much heavier 60 pushed my way past due for a change track bar over the edge.

I have never experienced death wobble. Hopefully i never will. But i am not going to take chances with this. moog replacement coming asap. Oreillys will probably have to have it shipped in because they never stock anything actually worth buying.

edit: well by cool 100 i meant cool 150

Guut Jerb!

There are various ways to measure the angles.

Here's the low down on some ways to go by it.

Changed my track bar out yesterday with the moog unit. The moog has a much bigger ball joint on it. I guess the stud has to be the same size but the head is much bigger. And greasable. But so was the stock one. I think the actually bar is a little thicker too. Has a pretty hard core looking bushing also. I actually did get it for 100

Fixed my clunking issue when steering.

Also my half inch torque wrench came in and what a rachet it is lol. Up to 250 ft lbs but that's prettty standard from what I saw.

Haven't taken for a test drive at speed yet. Pinion angle measurement coming tomorrow.

Alright new track bar was definetly needed. Truck handles even better now.

And I have figured out that the grinding issue is my tires.

Now that I know nothing is going to explode going down the highway I accelerated to 80 and..... The noise completely went away. Smooth as butter.

Put it in neutral and coasted back through from 80-65 and the noise came back, and then left after slowing down.

So I'm gonna finally rotate my tires and see if I can get it to go away.

They are cheapo mastercraft courser msr. Yes snow tires I know lol

My pinion angle checked out by the way. I won't bore everyone with the details but I followed the fsm
