Default im scratching my head at this one.

this is whats happening. on a cold start after 6 or 7 hours(in the sun) the truck is....very unwilling to start but in the morning it fires right up .the first turn of the key its...firing but doesnt get to idle and quickly turns off. the second turn key its turning for about 3 or 4 seconds and i let off the key...no start. third key turn and its turning for 2 or 3 seconds and she turns over unwillingly again and fires up to idle, this time stays on. and runs and drives fine once it gets to idle properly.

i will add that i just changed the vapor canister, the old one, if you turn it upside down charcoal spills out of it. no filter so my lines and solenoid was most likely clogged. butt ive taken the solenoid off and cleaned it, knocked all the charcoal out of the unit. im sure there is allot of charcoal in the lines which keeps tripping my check engine light.

what is wrong with my truck?

Check your fuel pressure, could be the pump going out, or the check valve not holding pressure.

Hook up a gauge to the fuel rail and see what the pressure comes up to when you turn the key on. If it's the fuel pump, it takes about 3 off-on cycles to get enough pressure to start. They can get weak but still work for awhile before they go clear out, usually in the middle of nowhere.

also,it should continue to hold pressure after you turn the key off,if not, then your return valve is bad,you can still drive it,just not gonna start on first crank...

There is no return line. Hold throttle plates open a hair when starting, if it makes a difference or dies after starting...could be iac. Fuel pressure sounds low..

but why wouldnt it do that at 3:30 in the morning in 35 degree winds. it fires right up. but when i leave work at noon the truck did what i described. as well at my second job on a way to leave to make a delivery(not drugs lol) the truck did it again.

if this helps, when its warm and i turn it off and then turn it back over while its still warm, it fires right back up too.

Are you getting any codes. And i would check the crankshaft position sensor. I had a similar trouble with mine that affected the sensor with what temperature it was outside.
