'94 1500 hesitates / no power...not always.
My son has a 1994 Dodge 1500 2wd 5.2L V8 with 135,000 miles on it. The truck is in excellent condition but just recently started occassionally hesitating while accelerating. He has been telling me about it but couldn't explain it, so today I drove it and it did it. The engine was good and warm and we were going up a slight incline and it acted like I had taken my foot off the gas! I pushed the accelerator further down but it felt like it fell back to idle, then the engine reved and it took off again. I can tell if it was starved for fuel or what. It runs very smoothly in all aspects, even when it loses power it still is running very smoothly so I don't think it's an ingnition problem but maybe a fuel pump? I've read that o2 sensors might can cause this? Any ideas before I take it to a mechanic $$$ ?
Thanks!!

Is the check engine light on during any of this? I think you can check for codes by turning the key on, keyoff. key on, keyoff, key on, then count the flashes in odometer for any codes. Works on 94-97 models. 98 an 99 need scan tool/code reader. 00 and 01 can get codes with key trick again. If there hard codes anyway, won't tell you pending codes.
Read the sticky at top of forum about blown plenum, loss of power...probably due for new 02 sensor if original ones still in there.
You can rent/loan a fuel pressure gauge from some parts stores to check fuel pressure...around 39 psi for that year.
