i have a 97 ram 1500 with the 3.9L 233XXX km

a sort of strange midfire has popped up over this winter and from my searching i havne't been able to find a similar problem. I feel that the TPS sensor might be to blame but before i load up the parts cannon i'd like to just get a second opinion.

The Truck Develops a misfire only when the engine is warmed up (water temp gauge between the first dash and the center dash) in gear and idling.

If i put a slight bit of pressure on the accelerator peddle it will go away, also if its in Nutral or park it will go away.

I've checked the codes it typically comes up as misfire on cyl 5, Plugs and wires were done about 10000 km ago. the 5th plug looks fine. slighty more "washed out" looking but nothing i would typically be concerned about if it wasn't misfiring.

Timing chain was done about 35000 km ago from what i was told by the previous owner.

I don't have a problem with having to try a few different things to get to the root of the problem. so feel free to offer any suggestions.

Awesome! Thanks for the replies! I picked up a cap and rotor. I'll change them out tonight and see how that goes.

 

Could swap a plug wire and see if misfire follows. If can n rotor don't remedy the problem.
