I'm not gonna stroke it right now because it'll end up Being an extra 2 grand by the time I'm done if I went 408, cause id put a steel crank and forged pistons if I did all that, then injectors etc.

My truck is a 97 3/4 ton 360 5 speed running 3.55 gears right now but I'm gonna re gear to 4.10s sooner or later.

I'll also be putting a centerforce dual friction clutch in it and forgot to mention I'm putting hs adjustable 1.6 roller rockers too

Both of those don't even start building power till 1800 RPM...... not exactly the best spot for a truck.....

What do you wanna do with your truck? What is the goal for the rebuild? (not numbers, purpose.)

Not necessarily a daily driver but to drive, haul 4 wheelers when we go riding, haul firewood in the winter and as a play toy sometimes Til i redo it with a 426 stroker In a few years and make a puller out of it

If you actually want to use your truck as a truck..... look at cams that have an operating range of idle to around 5000 RPM. (or no higher than about 1000 rpm, to whatever.) The cams you are looking at are more for 'high performance' engines than truck motors. No power down low, which is where you need it in a truck. Otherwise, you will also need a higher stall converter..... (and you think the gas mileage is bad NOW?)

It appears that you are into your rebuild project pretty deeply. Based upon the goals you laid out for the rebuild, you may want to consider a 408 stroker setup. I'm planning on running a 408 with a cast crank, as it will be plenty strong for my needs, which are in-line with the uses you have for your truck. Here is a link to a 408 cast crank stroker kit I'm looking at purchasing, which Summit Racing has in the $1285 range with free shipping - http://www.summitracing.com/parts/sca-1-98111bi

You can get the cast stroker crank from Hughes for 380 bucks, or forged for 800. I don't want to stroke it, cause I'm not throwing all the extra money into it now since I'm going to do a 426 later on

Also on the Hughes whiplash cam it says on the 318 cam card that it's sweet spot is idle-5000 but it doesn't give a rating for the 360 cam. Is there even a difference between the 2 cams?

Why even bother with the bottom end right now? Is there a problem with the bottom end that needs to be addressed? If you stick to top end only you won't even need to pull the motor. Do the pistons and crank later when you ready to stroke it.
