Default 4th gen Ram rims m14 x 1.5 on 2nd gen ram 1/2 x 20

I'll try to be as blunt as possible. I bought some 4th gen Ram rims for my rig. I didn't realize the lugs are slightly bigger then our 2nd gen rams. 4th gen rams have a m14 x 1.5 lug while 2nd gen rams have a 1/2 x 20 lug. I went to America's Tire to get them installed along with some tires and they said they can't install them for me because the 1/2 inch lug doesn't have the appropriate amount os sureface contact to hold the rim. It sits almost flush in the hole, a little proud of it. m14 lugs are an 1/8 inch wider. Anyone encounter this problem? Is there such a thing as an oversized 1/2 inch lug nut? I'll sell the rims if it's a safety issue, but i'd rather not.

Why not just swap the lugs? They are just staked in there, I would think you could find some of the appropriate caliber that would go right in, and solve the issue.

Thats what I'm thinking. Thanks for the reply HeyYou. It seems lately that if ones question isn't related to raising your truck, doing the plenum or the cat, the question asked is just thrown by the wayside. so would the knurls be a different size?

Maybe...... Think I would compare one of the stock size, to what the parts store has in the size you want. Just needs to be pretty close. If you can get them to stake into the holes properly, should be golden.

Good Luck, and let us know how it turns out.

I've been using the stock lugnuts on my chromeclad 20's since I got them ~2 years ago with no problems. I was a little worried as well about how far into the rim they go but they haven't loosened up on me. I tried finding lugs with a wider pitch angle but I couldn't (not saying much that I can't I'm not good with the Google-fu)

There are a few of us running later gen wheels so hopefully someone else will answer too for some more insight as to what everyone did for theirs...

I ran third gen wheels for nearly two years. I went down to oreillys and got some fatter lug nuts that fit the stock second gen lugs. Had to order some. They dont normally stock 20 of them
