Default Why did my Odemeter set back to zero

My pickup is a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 with an automatic. So i removed my engine and transmission to have the transfercase rebuilt and an overdrive housing installed on the transmission. But tonight i reinstalled everything and somehow my odometer was reset to zero? How did this happen and how can i fix it to return to its actual milage?

I think the cluster itself remembers mileage.... at least, it is supposed to..... If it forgot, chances are good that it won't remember anything any more..... Drive it a ways. Turn the truck off, and see if it remembers..... if it doesn't, probably have to replace the cluster.

Hurry up and sell it as an extremely low mileage barn find!!!!!

I'm just kidding, as that would be morally and ethically wrong. I just couldn't resist.

Cluster is screwed. Time for a new one. Or at least, a different one.
