I have a top of the line snap on scanner , i did a bunch of codes and reedings with that .The instremnts work fine along with the calibration of the speedo .I have a new sensor in the rear end .Im going to the dealer to swap it out for a new on soon .Whats the toner ring ?

My truck may or may not have gears in the rear end ? Im not sure of this , but other have told me that to change the diff fluid you need to take it to the dealer ?

time is of no importance to me only knowledge.

The toner ring is a ring that goes around the carrier that the wheel speed sensor reads. Normally a rear sensor fixes the problem if that code is present but occassionaly I have seen a bad toner ring. I would still go have the codes checked to narrow the problem down.

Like i said before I have a top of the line snap on scanner that dose it all .All of my reserch has led me to the ABS sensor in the rear end .From the looks of it , i think its just a magnet that reads another magnet inside the rear diff ?

It reads the tone ring, which if that is bad the sensor will have a problem reading it.

Are you going to keep bumping it until somebody says what you want to hear?

first off you can pull the fuse and the abs will shut off. you just wont have abs.

k check the normal stuff first such as brake fluid, brake line damage and so on . also check the internal brake components in side of your drums and make sure they are normal.
if normal then check the ring and sensor like everyone else is saying. if they are good check your abs pump and make sure they are fine. you said you have a top of the line code scanner, but to have one they would cost more then $600 or so and if they are cheeper then that they MAY not give you the codes you are looking for in the rear end.

its never a bad thing to change yoru fluid in your rear end.

you can find the type of rear end you have by your vin number or lookign at the info plate under your hood. when you lift it up, look up and you will usualy see it.

a way to find if you have a limited slip or posi is to jack up the rear end and spinn one wheel. if the other one goes the same direction then it is. if it goes the other direction then it is a open diff.
