ABS in rear end ! ! !
Talked to quite a few non modded dodge ram owners and we were exchangeing stories about stuff that needed to be done or replaced with the 98-01 ram's among other things like the dash cracking all up to **** , we came upon something my truck is doing non stop .The ABS sensor in the rear end .
All the ppl i talked to said they had to change this item out 2-3 times befor they got it to work right for them .Now here is my case .1998 dodge ram 1500 4X4 liftedwith 35' tires .ABS and brake light come on after i hit so many MPH but the back locks up like all hell befor the light comes on and after .Also the speedo jumps around and i think my mileage on the truck is off cuz of that as well .I chaged this out once and nothing ! At this point im like F@#$ Dodge ! someone told me to change the one on the tranny as well but at 60-100 a pop these things aren't cheap .!
Has anyone ever chaged this sensor out only to have the same problems ? Dose this effect Lifted ram's as much as reg ones ? Anyone have any suggestions on this topic ?
Im really thinking about going back to ford ! this truck has been nothing shy of a money pit ! ! ! ! ! !

Might wanna wait longer than 10 mins. for a response. [>:]
I've never had a problem with it on my truck. If you're having the lights come on, there may be something else going on with the truck. Or it may just be something wrong with the sensor. Best thing to do would be to replace the sensor and see if it fixes the problem. If not, you may have to take it to the dealer. IIRC, ABS codes are one of the few things that only a dealer can retrieve.
Lift wouldn't have much to do with it, but tire size would effect it quite a bit.
Maybe it's a problem with your 35' tires [8D]

Your toner ring in the rear diff may be worn or missing teeth. Other than that I'd agree with the previous post and advise you to take it to the dealer, it may cost a few hundred dollars but you'll spend that guessing.
I have a top of the line snap on scanner , i did a bunch of codes and reedings with that .The instremnts work fine along with the calibration of the speedo .I have a new sensor in the rear end .Im going to the dealer to swap it out for a new on soon .Whats the toner ring ?
My truck may or may not have gears in the rear end ? Im not sure of this , but other have told me that to change the diff fluid you need to take it to the dealer ?
time is of no importance to me only knowledge.

Im clueless about what rear end i have .Im not dodge at all .The fluid isn't my problem YET ! The main thing is the ABS sensor , i cann't drive with bad or no brakes .I know this is a common thing , why hasn't anyone ever had this problem come up yet ?

I'm past 75000 miles and I've never had that problem. Granted its a 2001 and I bought it used in 2004. But since I've owned it I've had no problems at all like that. Good luck and keep us all updated. Oh yeah, Good luck man!
I had a similiar problem but my rearend never locked up on me. My abs proportioning valve went out and it wasn't giving the breaks enough fluid and my abs brake light was on all the time. Instead of shelling out almost $600 for the 2 proportioning valves I just unplugged them. Haven't had a problem sense then.
My '98 just started acting up,Its done it 3 times now, you'll be driving along and hit the brakes and the nose of the truck will dive,****ty pedal and if you hit them hard enough the rear will lock up but the light never came on.Does this have to do with the ABS also?
