Default tranny leaking transmission bad

I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 5.9 gas with 46re 4x4 my transmission has been rebuilt has 30k on it.

The other day as I was driving it 40mph on a flat road empty. I noticed a bunch of smoke behind me. So I pulled over and got out looked under the truck and transmission oil was pouring out of the bottom of the bellhousing. So I turn truck off and had it towed home.... Is it def the front seal or is there any way the tc could be leaking ?? It's out of warrenty as a few months ago. Any input is greatly accepted... As I'm clueless when it comes to auto trans

And to add to the fire now I gotta drive a ford..... Yuck till my dodge is on the road

Can you get under the truck, cleans things up as best as possible, and try and locate were the leak is coming from?

That's going to be the front seal, or a pump failure. Either way, trans needs to come out.... Might wanna chat with the folks that rebuilt it, and see what kind of warranty it had.

Hey you... I've already did they had nothing to say I had a few problem right out of the gate after A-1 transmission In Bellingham wash built it.. And I kinda figured it was going to be a front seal after talking to another shop...

In your opinions am I better off having the whole tranny rebuilt again??? Or just have the pump and front seal replaced... Gonna be spendy either way

A lot of what you are paying in labor is to R&R the trans... which is going to have to happen anyway... Given the type of failure you have here, if it is indeed the pump, it will have scattered crap throughout the trans, and just doing the pump will be a temporary fix, at best. I am going to guess the price difference will be less than 500 bucks..... (but, bear in mind, I have been wrong before.....) Think I would just go for the rebuild, and call it a day. Do a few improvements while you are in there. Extra clutches/steels, and a selection of 47RE parts will go in there nice too. (of course, that makes it REALLY spendy......)

If it's just the seal.... I would be tempted to just go with that.... Unless you have the funds available for the rebuild......

Well how does one found out if the pump is fine?? It still shifted fine and didn't go into limp mode or throw any codes??? Last time I had a pump problem the o/d light flashed and it wouldn't shift
