Default Another Transmission Question?

What can be done to our stock 46RE transmissions to beef them up for running bigger tires besides a cooler cause i already have that.

go to www.apsprecision.com and look at their transmission section, pretty much all you can do right now would be to use high quality tranny fluid and install a shift kit. most of their fixes involve digging into the tranny while it's on the bench.

Don't forget a deep transmission pan & a real transmission temp. gauge. Mopar has a really nice deep cast aluminum pan with a sending unit fitting right in the side of it.

Best things to do have all been stated: deeper pan, good trans cooler, shift kit (TransGo are good ones). I have heard of others who put in an auxillary trans filter. Not sure if that is really needed though. Also, flush your system about every 18k-24k miles. I do mine about every 15k. Also, changing your gears will take a lot of the stress of bigger tires off the transfer case and transmission.

Burning Rom, do you know the mopar part number for that pan, I haven't been able to find one from Mopar that fits my Ram. I have tried for a long time to find a deep pan for mine, but all I can find are the aftermarket brands like Mag-Hytec, and their pans are like $300-$400.

http://www.mopartsracing.com/parts/trans.html

P5007740AB - A-518 (46RH/RE) Deep cast pan - 1990-2001 - 3.9" deep - $169.95

P5007793AB - A-727 deep cast pan - $169.95 <- For those who have 47RH/RE (A-618) transmissions. It will also work on the 46RH/RE (A-518), if you happen to find one cheaper somewhere else (like ebay). The bolt patterns on the pans are all the same.

Thanks a lot for all the information, I'll def. look into these things. My tranny was rebuilt about 8 months ago and I want to make it stronger so it won't go bad again!

Revisiting an old post here, but I am thinking of getting one of the Mopar deep trans pans.

1) Anyone know if this deep pan will still work with the factory trans skid plate, or will that have to come off for the pan to fit?

2) Anyone know what size the sending unit hole is?
