Angry A/C

A/C not working when I bought the 1994 1500. Checked clutch and it works. Tried to top off refrigerant, and after pumping a full can into the low side, clutch engages and disengages, but will not stay engaged. Warm air coming from vents. Do I have a sensor problem, or does it need more 134a?

Probably still low on refrigerant. If it was completely empty, good chance you have a significant leak somewhere.

That's what I figured. Time to find a leak tester, I guess. I think it may have not been seviced in a dog's age. I don't know how long it has been like that.If it is under the dashboard, I'll be driving with the windows open. Thanks, Hey You.

get it serviced by a qualified mechanic i know in Canada it is a big ticket if you work on a/c system with no qualifications even if you are doing it at your own home. when i comes to a/c it could be anything its very hard to diagnose an issue without being hands on.

You right. It's not like the old days. I will just try to top it off, and see what happens. Down here in Connecticut it would cost me over $1000.00 to have it diagnosed and repaired. I am not ready to spend that kind of money for creature comforts. Windows work well and I have a sliding rear glass. All the ventilation I need. I would rather spend the money on the body. Needs a paint job. The truck looks grreat, but it was definitely in a front end collision at one time, and whoever put it together did a lousy job on the paint. Other than the A/C, it is close to perfect, mechanically. Next week...new exhaust system. Thanks, my friends.

Underhood sticker should state how much the system holds. My Chevy has a slow leak somewhere, I just throw a couple cans of refrigerant in it every spring and it gets me through the summer. Not worth it to me to take it somewhere.

Amen to that! I did finish topping it off and it is working beautifully, for now. I don't know if it had a leak or some repairs were made when it was crashed, and the previous owner just didn't bother. Anyway, unless there is a leak, I am all set.
