Default 1995 dodge ram 1500 5.9 pinging under load

Haven't posted in a couple months. Did an engine swap and the oil consumption is back....... 167k miles on the motor and the same symptoms I feel are coming back that blew a piston ring in my old motor...... When I accelerate a little hard it seems like it bogs down and hesitates for a moment then all of a sudden accelerates really fast. While its bogging and hesitating there's a pinging noise coming from the motor. Gets louder and louder the longer and harder I get on the throttle. Don't want to go through another motor. I hope it's a sensor or something simple. There's new plugs, wires, plenum, headers, Cold air intake, and oil pump. The fuel pump is about 2 years old. Also when it goes into over drive at about 55 mph is starts to shake a tad and won't go over 65 mph without the pinging getting out of hand. Maybe an o2 sensor or fowled plug? Compression is good but still consuming a lot of oil. Please help! I love my ram!

Read the stickied plenum thread at the top of the forum. Im willing to bet thats your problem. Fouled cats and o2 sensors are prime indicators of a bad plenum.

Did you re-use the sensors from your old motor?

Yes, IAC, Map Sensor, Fuel injectors, and o2 sensor were used from the old one. The cam sensor, Plenum, and Throttle position sensor are a few months old.

The crank sensor is about 5 months old. Codes are 37 and 24(only sometimes) check engine light will randomly come on. It's pulling up code 27 also which is injector # control circuit? I do smell gas when I've been driving around for awhile. Not to mention when It goes into overdrive at about 55 mph it shakes when I give it gas. Plus the pinging and everything I said before.

I would check or replace the map sensor, and if the 02 sensors are original or have a lot of miles on them, then there bad. The map sensor controls timing and fuel delivery to a point, and if it goes bad it could cause your engine to run lean or bog down.

I honestly have no idea. How do I check? I have been told that code comes up often on dodges.

On the 95, if you have a trans temp sensor, it will be mounted to the "out" cooler line, right near the trans.
